Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, little town that is a bit sleepy. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never heard of it often mistake it for a separate, west-facing island. The West Island is frequently referred to as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. The first goal she had was to be a dancer but an increase in her height resulted in her outgrowing her dance partners. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. Once I surpassed the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama instructor who pushed her into this path. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to go after a role in the school's annual production. After trying out, she ended up as the leading lady for Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she's been in over 60 productions that have screened on large screens and on smaller ones. Her most notable role was that of Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian in the season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
