Elizabeth Reaser, an American actor on film, TV and theatre best known for her roles in The Twilight Saga as well as series like Greys Anatomy or True Detective. Her producers got a tape of her performance in MMA and also a short clip of her performing. She sent them a video on the next day that showed her sword-fighting. After having read the script Jessica was aware that the character would require weapons training and she recorded her first session in a class with an experienced instructor. Jonathan Glassner says that her stunt team were surprised with how she performed in the initial lesson. The previous movies she has appeared in were all located in Australia. The Outpost was her debut big part in the United States. The film capitalizes on her passion for action by utilizing her mixed disciplines of horse riding, martial arts, weapon skills, and athletic skills that allow her to also do her tricks and truly embody the strong female character.
